SAFIR Working Session n°7
As part of SAFIR objectives, the seventh SAFIR working session was held in Praia, Cape Verde from the 26th to 29th January 2015. Up to 31 delegates representing various States and organizations participated in the 7th working session.
The Working Session whose theme was EGNOS V3 operations, maintenance, and service provision was officially opened by Joan Monteiro, President of the Boards of Directors of Cape Verde CAA.
Presentations included EGNOS and associated services, based on experience gained in Europe. Discussions were held particularly focusing on EGNOS V3 operations, maintenance, and service provision as well as new “module” implementation in Africa. ICAO ESAF presentation gave the opportunity to update stakeholders on the global provisions and AFI regional strategy for the introduction of GNSS services.
Various strategies for adoption of GNSS/EGNOS in Africa were also deliberated upon with the aim of fostering establishment of new modules in Africa.
The working session provided to the participants, in depth knowledge of EGNOS service provision framework and activities in Europe as well as the status of the ongoing initiatives.
The next one will take place in Madagascar in April 2015 where the final Roadmap for EGNOS services implementation for Africa will be presented.
