Building capacity in GNSS multimodal and market applications for Africa, Dakar, 18-21 September, 2018
Dakar hosted the first GNSS multimodal and market applications training in the brand new premises offered by ASECNA, the San Marco Building near LSS International Airport, Yoff.
Participants included JPO, RECs, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) West and Central Africa, MESRI (Ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur, de la Recherche et de l’Innovation of Senegal) and ASECNA.
This customised course delivered by ESSP, the unique EASA certified ANSP and only operator for Europe, focused on the different GNSS market segments and transport domains while seeking relevance to Africa.
The purpose of the introduction of basic GNSS augmentation techniques, benefits and shortfalls, was to provide participants with knowledge and tools to enable them to distinguish the most suitable GNSS solution for each market segment and transport domains, understand the application concepts and practical implementation scenarios’ for different market segments such as agriculture, mapping / surveying, LBS, road, rail or maritime. It also provided tools to assess the economic benefits using SBAS for each application in each domain and to acquire the basics for designing demonstration projects in terms of definition and planning. The session ended with a vote of thanks to the trainers followed by awarding of training certificates to the recipients.
